holiday party post
Aphrodite's New York loft is done up to the nines.
The first good look as one enters is of twinkling Manhattan through the big windows, lights bright against a dark winter sky. The windows take up most of two walls; the rest of the space is largely empty, the star of the show a glowingly polished hardwood floor perfect for dancing.
There's a cluster of low-slung couches and chairs at one end of the room, velvet and leather and very inviting. They're situated by the fireplace, which lends them a cozy glow-- though it isn't cold anywhere in here, despite the windows.
Aphrodite is very proud of a few things about tonight:
1) The music, which spans a decent range of time periods and tempos, and will be playing for most of the evening.
2) The decorations, understated but quite lovely: softly glowing lights, silver and gold ribbons wound around columns and draped from the ceiling ... the occasional strategically placed bit of mistletoe.
3) Her dress.
And yes, darlings, there is a very well stocked bar and counter full of snacks.
That's what happens when you enlist the Three Graces to help you plan your shindigs.

Re: Arrivals
Okay, Mako has to admit, the jacket's got a certain charm to it.
Re: Arrivals
(And...is working very very hard to keep his eyes up where they belong. HE'S SIXTEEN YEARS OLD OKAY.)
"Mascot of the Fire Ferrets," he says, proudly. Putting a hand to his chest. "And I'm Bolin. This is my brother Mako."
Re: Arrivals
Aphrodite claps her hands.
"So you're Mako and Bolin! Glad you could make it, boys-- and I'm glad you brought your friend, too." She waves. "Hi Pabu!"
Re: Arrivals
"I'm glad we could make it, too," Mako says, putting his right fist into his left palm and bowing in a Bao Quan. "Are you sure we're not...underdressed?" he asks, looking anywhere but that long red dress with that low low neckline.
(Believe it or not, he has hormones, too.)
Re: Arrivals
Bolin hooks a thumb toward the door to indicate.
Re: Arrivals
"Oh-- no, not at all!"
THEY'RE ADORABLE.
"You guys look great," she assures them. "Come on in, enjoy the party."
Re: Arrivals
"We'll be sure to do that," Mako says, nodding in thanks. "Thank you, Aphrodite. Come on, Bolin."
Re: Arrivals
Pabu adds a squeak and a wave of his own as Bolin trots after Mako.
Once they're out of earshot: "Wow."
Re: Arrivals
"I'm starting to see what you meant by 'different worlds', bro."
They have nothing like this in Republic City, not even with the biggest movers and shakers in the Four Nations.
Re: Arrivals
Bolin's doing his best not to bounce on his toes out of sheer excitement, if only because it might dislodge Pabu from his perch.
"Look at that. The view up here is nuts."
Re: Arrivals
- and gapes. The view up here is nuts - metal buildings as far as the eye can see and taller than anything he's ever seen, thousands of lights stretching out to the horizon, bridges that look like they span for miles, a port that, even at this hour, is chock-full of ships -
- and in the end, the only word in Mako's vocabularly that seems sufficient is:
"Whoa."
Not even Republic City seems this big.
Re: Arrivals
Seriously, if they weren't at a super-high-class party right now, Bolin would try to take off and explore the whole thing.
Re: Arrivals
This is it, isn't it? The future - it's all here, all on display. And he's shocked into silence.
For the first time in his life, he's the one asking instead of the one answering.
"What do we do?"
Re: Arrivals
(It takes a bit of reaching, considering Mako's got about half a foot on him.)
"Get some food, enjoy the party, and think about how awesome this whole thing is," he suggests.
Re: Arrivals
Then he nods.
"Meet me back here when it's over, okay?"
Re: Arrivals
Man, what would his big brother do without him? Have NO FUN AT ALL, that's what.
