holiday party post
Aphrodite's New York loft is done up to the nines.
The first good look as one enters is of twinkling Manhattan through the big windows, lights bright against a dark winter sky. The windows take up most of two walls; the rest of the space is largely empty, the star of the show a glowingly polished hardwood floor perfect for dancing.
There's a cluster of low-slung couches and chairs at one end of the room, velvet and leather and very inviting. They're situated by the fireplace, which lends them a cozy glow-- though it isn't cold anywhere in here, despite the windows.
Aphrodite is very proud of a few things about tonight:
1) The music, which spans a decent range of time periods and tempos, and will be playing for most of the evening.
2) The decorations, understated but quite lovely: softly glowing lights, silver and gold ribbons wound around columns and draped from the ceiling ... the occasional strategically placed bit of mistletoe.
3) Her dress.
And yes, darlings, there is a very well stocked bar and counter full of snacks.
That's what happens when you enlist the Three Graces to help you plan your shindigs.

Re: Food and Drink
He's... he's seen maypoles. Whatever's going on, with the writhing and the climbing and the holding oneself aloft with great acrobatic skill is nothing he's ever seen on May Day. Unless he's been going to the wrong celebrations.
Re: Food and Drink
Oh.
Okay, nobody was doing that with the pole when he and Mako walked in here.
UM.
Re: Food and Drink
"But enough of my dealings," he announces, around one cheek full of hors d'œuvres. "How goes it with you, eh? Champions of the ring?"
Re: Food and Drink
...and we're done.
"It's going good!" he says, perhaps a little more brightly than strictly necessary as he grabs a couple of things that kinda look like spinach puffs. Pabu shifts his weight forward on Bolin's shoulder, whiskers twitching. "Mostly good. There's kiiiiinda a little problem with our waterbender, but hopefully we're gonna get it resolved?"
Or so Bolin hopes.
Re: Food and Drink
Can Harry help?
Well, probably not, but he's concerned. Problems are a drag!
Re: Food and Drink
Not to mention make him and Mako pull double duty whenever they're in the arena.
Re: Food and Drink
Re: Food and Drink
"Yup, Fire Ferret," he confirms cheerfully. Pabu adds an equally cheerful prrt!, earning a scratch behind the ears from Bolin. "And man, I don't know. I mean, maybe he figures he can slack off because we're a rookie team, but come on! We've got a serious chance of winning it all if we work hard enough!"
Re: Food and Drink
"Nay, the advantage lies in being seen as inexpert, but if the enemy lets you close within his grasp because he thinks you a child borrowing his father's sword, 'tis he who'll learn that you have trained to be formidable. Yet if you are truly what your enemy sees..."
The scenario goes on in his head, but outside of his head, he's just glaring at a piece of empty space somewhere past Bolin's shoulder.
That piece of empty space should be quivering in its jerkin, though.
Re: Food and Drink
He slants a look back at Harry. "You know," he says after a thoughtful beat, "that's actually not too bad a strategy. But, uh, you okay, dude?"
It's like that pocket of air kicked a kitten or something.
Re: Food and Drink
Beat. "Though I did eat of a plate which was drugged. I am told 'twill pass, and thus I am to enjoy it while I may."
Re: Food and Drink
Pabu, picking up on Bolin's alarm, echoes that with a tiny shriek of his own, diving for Bolin's other shoulder as his owner flails his arms.
"Someone drugged you? Does anybody else know? Oh man, are you okay?"
Please don't die Harry please don't die Harry.
Re: Food and Drink
Not his own words, but he heard them in passing somewhere, and he likes the sound of it. No hard feelings.
Re: Food and Drink
Yeah, he guesses he missed that bit where Harry said he was all right, but only because he was stuck on the I WAS POISONED part.
Bolin's grin is a little more nervy, but he gives Harry a clap on the shoulder. "Good! But you start feeling super-sick or anything, you let me know, okay, buddy? We'll find a doctor."
