holiday party post

Aphrodite's New York loft is done up to the nines.

The first good look as one enters is of twinkling Manhattan through the big windows, lights bright against a dark winter sky. The windows take up most of two walls; the rest of the space is largely empty, the star of the show a glowingly polished hardwood floor perfect for dancing.

There's a cluster of low-slung couches and chairs at one end of the room, velvet and leather and very inviting. They're situated by the fireplace, which lends them a cozy glow-- though it isn't cold anywhere in here, despite the windows.

Aphrodite is very proud of a few things about tonight:

1) The music, which spans a decent range of time periods and tempos, and will be playing for most of the evening.
2) The decorations, understated but quite lovely: softly glowing lights, silver and gold ribbons wound around columns and draped from the ceiling ... the occasional strategically placed bit of mistletoe.
3) Her dress.

And yes, darlings, there is a very well stocked bar and counter full of snacks.

That's what happens when you enlist the Three Graces to help you plan your shindigs.

He's 17, he's accidentally had some pot brownies tonight, and someday he's going to try and topple kings.

Right now, though, Harry Percy's sort of... taking it all in. He's making a circuit, to see if perhaps another angle will get him to understand the dancing (or indeed, where the other rooms in this apartment are), but he's not as terrifically observant as he might be otherwise.

Which means bumping into people. "Oh! Good my lady, I cry your mercy."

Yeah, there's also that.

Woah, hello flowery language. Clementine blinks at him for a second, rubbing her shoulder. "It's cool," she says, eyeballing him curiously. "You're not from around here, are you?" Cue her wondering if she's missed out on some cool hallucinogens.

"Nay, though I'll wager there's not a one of us here tonight who is native, save the Lady Aphrodite, and even she is not at home, as she is Greek, and this is America, or so I am told."

Oh. He finally figures out what's going on with her dress. It's... it's quite a dress for a teenage boy from the Middle Ages to be taking in.

"I think you must come a long time after me."

Woahh. Either the stuff in Mike's brownies is finally getting to her or this dude really is from the twelfth century. "Right," she says, to cut off his speech. "Sooo...pre-America. Yep. I come from a magggical world called Reno where I can wear this," she replies, pointing rather directly to her breasts. "I'm two thousand and three, honey."

Harry's eyes are wide, and exactly where she wants them. "I mean no disrespect, for well I know 'tis rude to remark upon a lady's age, but you look very well for it. I stand amazed."

"That's because goddesses don't age, honey," she says lightly. "Did you come with somebody, or are you alone?"

"Another goddess! So many, and I lucky enough to face them." He scratches his nose. "I came with a friend, but she is not my paramour. I am unwed."

...She's gonna use this to her advantage. Sorry, Harry.

"I bet you have your pick of the girls back home." She promptly bats her lashes outrageously.

Well, she does have a guy in the infirmary whom she won't cheat on, but kissing doesn't count. "Yeah well, The right amount of popular sounds perfectly right to me."
