holiday party post
Aphrodite's New York loft is done up to the nines.
The first good look as one enters is of twinkling Manhattan through the big windows, lights bright against a dark winter sky. The windows take up most of two walls; the rest of the space is largely empty, the star of the show a glowingly polished hardwood floor perfect for dancing.
There's a cluster of low-slung couches and chairs at one end of the room, velvet and leather and very inviting. They're situated by the fireplace, which lends them a cozy glow-- though it isn't cold anywhere in here, despite the windows.
Aphrodite is very proud of a few things about tonight:
1) The music, which spans a decent range of time periods and tempos, and will be playing for most of the evening.
2) The decorations, understated but quite lovely: softly glowing lights, silver and gold ribbons wound around columns and draped from the ceiling ... the occasional strategically placed bit of mistletoe.
3) Her dress.
And yes, darlings, there is a very well stocked bar and counter full of snacks.
That's what happens when you enlist the Three Graces to help you plan your shindigs.

Re: Food and Drink
"Hankerin' for both sweet an' salty?"
Re: Food and Drink
"I suppose so. I've never seen food like this before."
Re: Food and Drink
"It's all quite fancy. Some I recognize, but not everythin'. Could I, perhaps, help?"
Re: Food and Drink
He looks over the plates again.
"Something not too sweet, but not too salty, either. Is there anything like that here?"
Re: Food and Drink
There are plates drizzled in fancy sauces, sculpted appetizers the makings of which mostly allude her, an array of modern foods which look like miniaturized versions of hot dogs and chicken legs ...
"Ah! This is a cheese plate, an' I believe these are deviled eggs. Both are very good. An' I recognize most of this fruit, other'n that spiky one over there."
Re: Food and Drink
- then plucks an apple from one, foregoing the more exotic dishes.
"I think this will do. Thank you, though."
He sets the apple down, then tucks his right hand into his left palm and bows in a Bao Quan.
"I'm Mako."
Re: Food and Drink
"Miss Kate Barlow. S'a pleasure t'meet you, Mako."
She points to a platter of seven-layer dip.
"I've been workin' up my courage t'try somma these, but t'be honest I'm not familiar with everythin' here either."
Re: Food and Drink
"I'm...not sure what to make of most of this. The food, I mean. It's not this...fancy where you're from, either?"
Re: Food and Drink
Re: Food and Drink
This makes organizing a timeline just a liiiiitle awkward."I've never heard of Texas. What's it like?"
Re: Food and Drink
Kate just enjoys hearing about other places.
"Texas is wonderful. S'hot, an' there's an awful lotta desert where I'm at. Plains, mostly, though we do have forests an' mountains. Lots of wide open spaces, an' big, deep skies."
Re: Food and Drink
"Sounds like some places in the Earth Kingdom. I've never been, myself - I've actually never gone outside the city."
Re: Food and Drink
"Well, a world's an awful big place t'cover. I haven't traveled much myself. What's your city like?"
