holiday party post
Aphrodite's New York loft is done up to the nines.
The first good look as one enters is of twinkling Manhattan through the big windows, lights bright against a dark winter sky. The windows take up most of two walls; the rest of the space is largely empty, the star of the show a glowingly polished hardwood floor perfect for dancing.
There's a cluster of low-slung couches and chairs at one end of the room, velvet and leather and very inviting. They're situated by the fireplace, which lends them a cozy glow-- though it isn't cold anywhere in here, despite the windows.
Aphrodite is very proud of a few things about tonight:
1) The music, which spans a decent range of time periods and tempos, and will be playing for most of the evening.
2) The decorations, understated but quite lovely: softly glowing lights, silver and gold ribbons wound around columns and draped from the ceiling ... the occasional strategically placed bit of mistletoe.
3) Her dress.
And yes, darlings, there is a very well stocked bar and counter full of snacks.
That's what happens when you enlist the Three Graces to help you plan your shindigs.

And so, enter one Nita Callahan and one Harry Percy, both spruced up for the party and looking around with varying levels of interest.

"By God! This new York outshines the old one by a hundred mile, in faith!"
Look! LOOK OUT THAT WINDOW.
no subject
"It's pretty cool, right?"
no subject
Look at all the other buildings too! Many taller than this one! Who lives like this?
This is a really, really good introduction to the future for Harry.

Aphrodite smiles.
"And it only gets better from here. Hi kids!"
no subject
See? Harry can be well behaved -- he's had training. Which is why he bows and takes Aphrodite's hand for a quick kiss to her knuckles. Very courtly, yes yes?
no subject
"Dai'stiho, Aphrodite. Your place is gorgeous."
no subject
She giggles at the kiss.
"Well done, you. Practicing?"
no subject
Still, he's grinning. Hell yeah, conquering a thing he'd never done much of before!
Because he's totally conquered it. Manners.

"And what a very lovely sergeant-at-arms you've found yourself tonight, Mr. Percy. I'm almost afraid you might not want my help anymore."
Nita gets something of a just-us-girls smile, brief but conspiring.
no subject
Very quickly: "Nita is not my paramour!"
no subject
She chokes instead!
"Really not." She tips Aphrodite a very wry salute. "I'm pretty sure your and my areas of expertise are pretty different."
no subject
"My mistake. Still in the game, then?"
no subject
"Interminably," he sighs. "Yet I am not here to talk of such things, your own good domain aside, if it please you. Unless one of you may tell me know who I should seek out and end this folly quickly!"
no subject
"No, you're right, and it pleases me very much. No talking shop! You should start drinking."
no subject
no subject
At least with substances, anyway. He's more likely to be fascinated by all the incredibly clear and potable filtered water with ice.

"You kids have fun, okay? Shout if you need anything."
